Get some Sun!
It’s not always easy in the winter, with shorter days and the fact that it’s too cold, to get out and enjoy the sunlight. Sun exposure releases neurotransmitters in the brain and make you feel good. Lack of sunlight can leave you feeling depressed. So, try and get out a little every day and also open your curtains and let the sun in and consider buying “full spectrum” light bulbs that mimic natural light.

Eat Well
Avoid cards and processed foods and go for fruits, veggies, lean protein and complex carbohydrates. Good nutrition will give your body the nutrients you need to control your blood sugar and elevate your mood in turn.  Try taking a supplement that includes Vitamin D which you normally get from the sun.

Clean House
Everyone hears about spring cleaning and you know it makes you feel good to put your house in order. Give the house a total cleaning and give away or throw away everything you don’t need.  You’ll be exhausted at the end of the day, which can be a good feeling in itself, and you’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment as you relax in your favorite chair and marvel at how good your house looks.

Exercise
Exercise can release endorphins that improve your mood. It will also help you avoid gaining winter weight and make you feel good about yourself.  No one is ever sorry after they went to the gym.  It’s getting there that’s hard, so just go. Make it part of a regular routine.  Keeping a good routine is also good for mental health.

Treat Yourself
Plan a vacation to a warmer climate, schedule a massage or a makeover, join a social group, go to bed early with a good book or buy some great bath salts, grab a glass of wine, light some candles and soak. There are a ton of ways you can treat yourself so just do it, you deserve it.

Remember, the days are already getting longer and each day is a step closer to spring.
