 Entertainment:

amy rayAmy Ray

Amy Ray has gone country, and her scenic-route detour was not as out of the way as some fans might think.

The singer-songwriter, best known as half of the Grammy-winning Indigo Girls folk-rock duo, has produced a solo album, Goodnight Tender, which is country music in the purest — and purist – sense of the word. Recorded at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, N.C., this collection of 11 originals by Ray, along with a cover penned by Heather McEntire, was released in January of 2014 from Ray’s Decatur-based company, Daemon Records. Her latest release, The Tender Hour – Amy Ray Live from Seattle,  does what any satisfying live record should do-it puts the listener in the room and immerses them in the humanity of the show-complete with stories, blunders, an incredible band, and an energetic heartfelt night of music!

vicky shawVickie Shaw

Vickie Shaw is the funniest comedian EVER! She said so herself! Vickie has been making people laugh until their faces hurt and ribs cracked! She has traveled the entire US and many overseas locations making people laugh. She gets her comedy from her life, with her partner Sargent Patch, their three children and now three grandchildren. She has been in movies, “Laughing Matters More”, television, Comedy Central, four comedy specials on the LOGO Channel, Late In Life Lesbians, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, just to name a few. She headlines on Olivia Cruises, HRC events, Lambda Legal, GLAAD, and the list just gets bigger. If you have a chance to see her you absolutely must. Don’t miss her.

elvira kurtElvira Kurt

When Elvira Kurt is not writing about herself in the third person, she’s a Canadian Comedy Award winning, three-time Gemini Award nominated stand-up comic and Second City veteran, who’s starred, hosted or appeared in too many TV shows and comedy specials to mention. Except for these: Popcultured with Elvira Kurt on The Comedy Network, the first late night talk show hosted by a woman that she also created and produced; The Gayest Show Ever, co-created, co-produced and hosted by Elvira which won Best Pilot at the Banff World Television Festival, Queer as Jokes, with Elvira as host and headliner of CBC’s first ever all gay comedy special and Big Girl Now!, Elvira’s award winning one-hour CTV comedy special.

shelly dotyShelley Doty

Shelley Doty has a voluminous career as a solo artist, band leader, band member, hired gun, and musical director, among other things. Shelley’s comprehensive styles include jazz, fusion, R&B, “avant-punk-classical”, rock and acoustic folk. At various junctures on her musical journey, Shelley has been involved with Jambay, The Shelley Doty X-tet, Sistas in the Pit, Skip the Needle, Vicki Randle, Bonfire Madigan, and the list goes on. In 1999, she won the Lilith Fair Acoustic Talent Search and closed the show playing guitar with Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, and Chrissie Hynde in front of 22,000 cheering fans. Guitar Player Magazine praises her voice as “smoky, (and) soulful.” My favorite thing about Shelley is her willingness to stretch herself out of her comfort zone when asked, and create something unique. I can’t wait to see what she will come up with for 2015! Check out the full article from Guitar Player Magazine, as well as her amazing bio, both found at www.shelleydoty.com.

mouthMouths of Babes

“If I was forced to categorize it, I’d call it modern folk. It’s powerful. It’s romantic. It’s giddy. And the two are insanely infectious together onstage, like a musical and a personal love fest all at once.” – Huffington Post

With more than a dozen albums and over a thousand shows between them, Ty Greenstein and Ingrid Elizabeth are no strangers to the contemporary folk music scene. For years, their respective bands Girlyman and Coyote Grace captivated thousands of loyal fans as they criss-crossed the country, rocked festivals and toured with the likes of the Indigo Girls and Dar Williams.
