Lezhike-West Bloomfield Trail

| February 26, 2018

West Bloomfield Trail

This pretty (but often busy) almost 7 mile rail trail offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of West Bloomfield, about 30 minutes northwest of Detroit. With a nature preserve on one end and a community park on the other, the limestone path crosses peaceful wilderness and marsh-like areas that offer several birdwatching stops. Travel off of the main path and onto one of the side trails to spot foxes, woodchucks, and rabbits, and at the many ponds, cute little turtles, and chirping waterfowl.
Trail starts at a parking lot off Arrowhead Road which is off Pontiac Trail heading East from Haggerty just before Orchard Lake Road. The parking lot on Arrowhead Road and entrance to the Nature Preserve and Trail is very nice. It has two, well-maintained and clean porta-potties and a gazebo with information on both the preserve and trail. If you turn left at the gazebo you will be on the West Bloomfield Trail heading Northeast. If you go straight from the gazebo you will be in the Nature Preserve.
