Today you will meet the leadership of the Hartman Institute, a pluralistic research and leadership center at the forefront of Jewish thought and education in Israel. Explore the Old City of Jerusalem, one of the world’s true centers of history and civilization, and home to holy sites of each of the world’s three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. We will visit the Kotel (Western Wall) and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and explore ancient Roman ruins and vibrant bustling marketplaces. There will be time for you to stop for some traditional Israeli food for lunch and to do some shopping. HIGHS AND LOWS: MASADA AND THE DEAD SEA Enjoy your included breakfast before we head south on a special day trip to Masada and the Dead Sea. Masada is a magnificent plateau in the Israeli desert that is of great significance in both the ancient and modern history of the Jewish people. We will reach the top either by stairs or cable car, and our guide will guide us among the ruins as we learn the special history and meaning of this site. We will continue on to the Dead Sea, where we will have lunch and swim at the Herod’s hotel, Dead Sea, with use of their private beach and spa. The Dead Sea is a fun and rejuvenating experience unlike any other. In the evening, we will return to the hotel, and dinner will be on your own. Later in the evening, you will have the option to join us as we visit the Mahane Yehuda Marketplace at night, where the market is transformed into a hip scene of bars and entertainment. (B/L)

In the afternoon, you’ll visit Jisr al Zarqa, the only Arab-Israeli village on the Mediterranean, where you’ll enjoy a festive family-style lunch. After checking into your hotel, take advantage of a free afternoon to explore. Your evening group dinner will feature some of the city’s leading lesbian activists. November 16, 2017 – Tel Aviv
PRIDE AGAINST THE ODDS After breakfast, board your coach and depart for the Tel Aviv LGBTQ Center. The LGBTQ Center is in the heart of the city in Gan Meir (Meir Park). It is one of the only two municipally-funded centers in the world, and serves as the headquarters for most of Israel’s national LGBTQ organizations. Together we’ll tour the center and meet Israel’s major LGBTQ non-profit organizations. Enjoy a free afternoon in Tel Aviv on your own. Chomp on falafel or shawarma. Shop at the HaCarmel Market or walk along the beautiful waterfront. Just ask your tour guides for ideas! In the early evening, gather for a Tel Aviv LGBTQ Leaders Reception to celebrate the work being done to strengthen the LGBTQ communities of North America and Israel. Hear from Israeli LGBTQ leaders, and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be on your own. Tel Aviv is a world-class culinary destination so be sure to ask your tour guides for recommendations. (B)
