Stone Bridge Hike

May 22 Stone Bridge Hike 10am The Stone Bride Nature Trail is a 0.7-mile loop trail located within Detroit’s Rouge Park. The trailhead is located on Tireman Ave just east of Outer Drive. Renovated during the summer of 2016, the trail is in great shape and has very few, if any, obstacles to climb over/avoid which makes this trail great to take children to explore. Interpretive signs along the trail provide interesting facts about the Rouge Park environment. The Stone Bridge Nature Trail is named after a very old bridge that the trail crosses over. A seasonal creek runs underneath the bridge called “Al’s Creek,” named after a volunteer who actively monitors and cares for the creek. There are a couple places where the trail has stairs made from natural resources from the woods, but the terrain is still easy to hike. Note that the slope can be slippery when wet. This trail offers multiple opportunities for photography. The bridge, stairs, and the Rouge River are prime spots to get beautiful photos. While hiking this trail, you may see deer muskrat, great blue herons, wood ducks, and maybe even a coyote if you are lucky! Stone Bridge Nature Trail is truly a hidden escape to the beautiful outdoors right in your backyard without having to leave the city 15099 Outer Dr W, Detroit, MI · Meet at Trailhead Dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed at all times.

July 10 at 10am Koppernick Section: Tonquish, Beech and Tulip Loop is a 2.7 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Westland, Michigan that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. The Preserve is part of the Wayne County Park system and consists of 500-plus acres of forests and wetlands that runs along tributaries of the Rouge River in Westland, Michigan. The Preserve is a place of beauty and tranquility within the most populous county Michigan. Like Arthur Richardson who donated the funds for the Preserve, in memory of his uncle William P. Holliday, the HNPA seeks to nurture a greater appreciation of this unique local natural resource by hosting walks for families, groups and individuals.
