It’s time to make those New Year’s resolutions! While many people make them, many never keep them. Why do we all keep trying then? It might sound corny but New Year offers us all a chance to regroup and start fresh. Whether it’s losing a few pounds, working out more, saving money, finding a new job or getting more organized, New Years is the time to reinvent ourselves and our lives for the better.
If you’re like most of us, the holidays can be a wonderful time to enjoy our friends, family and loved ones. The end of the season can also leave us over fed, exhausted, our home a wreck and our bank accounts depleted. What better time to clean the slate and start the new year with a plan?
Everyone has heard of a good spring cleaning but perhaps a good New Year’s cleaning can give us that refreshing feeling of a new start. So out with the old dirt and clutter and on to a new year filled with resolutions kept.
It’s time to start planning. Where to begin? Do I hire a housekeeping service or do it myself? Hiring a professional housecleaning company would free up a lot of time to work on other resolutions, like going to the gym, but either way, this is the year to make it happen. If you do decide to go it alone, start with the hardest, or your least favorite chore. For some it might be a deep cleaning of the oven, for others, it’s the windows, the fridge, or organizing a closet. Make a to-do list and get started. It’s a great feeling to start seeing progress, and things will only get easier from there.
While you’re making resolutions to improve your life this year, consider switching to eco-friendly cleaning products if you haven’t already. Commercial cleaning products are packed full of toxic, cancer causing chemicals that can be harmful to you, your pets as well as the environment. Going green can also save you a lot of money when you start using safe, everyday products that you already have in your cupboards. Baking soda, vinegar, lemon and cornstarch are very effective cleaning products that can be used in place of commercial products. Setting goals for the new year can be accomplished if you make a plan with details of exactly what you hope to accomplish. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it’s with housekeeping chores or sticking to a diet, having someone to help with the work or to hold you accountable, can be the difference between success and failure.
